Since London Fashion Week, in between ski trips, Six Nations rugby matches and the Bahrain F1 Grand Prix, we’ve spent quite a bit of time meeting in various drinking establishments, engaged in occasionally lively debate on topics such as when and how we should deploy our marketing/sponsorship budget, what our print strategy should be and what logo/branding we should adopt.

The latter point was resolved surprisingly quickly after a design was scribbled on a piece of paper during an evening of cocktails in Soho. Well, we figured it would do for the time being at least. We’ve also finally sorted out proper email addresses, set up a Twitter account, made a start on a Facebook page and formalised an editorial policy (see here). We’re proud at the fact that, to date, the feedback from all the subjects of our coverage (few though they may be) has been positive and we hope to keep it that way.

We’ve currently putting together a preview/teaser version of the print version of HNT for early April, with the first full edition following in the summer and we’re making plans for the next event we’ll be covering – Alternative Fashion Week at Spitalfields Market in April. We’re planning to report on every day’s catwalk show and speak with most, if not all, of the designers showing there. Between now and then, we hope to catch up with some of the designers we met during London Fashion Week, to find out how it went and what their post-LFW plans and activites are.

We also sat down and engaged in a bit of brainstorming and research to map out the people, events and organisations we encountered or heard about at LFW (see a sample of the results at right) and we’re planning to follow some of those dotted lines to learn more about the opportunities and challenges new designers face when they’re trying to kick-start their career.

How do you launch a new fashion-focused webzine/blog/thingy? My original idea was to host a glamourous launch party at a trendy bar with lots of trendy fashion industry people and celebs. Our backer, Mr. Big, soon set me straight.

“What are you actually going to launch?” he asked.

“Umm… Well, you know, the brand,” I responded.

“You don’t have a brand. You have an idea and there’s no way I’m going to fork out for a launch party when all you’re launching is a blank page. Get out there and generate some content.”

So, this weekend, we’ll be heading to London Fashion Week to do exactly that. I suppose that this is what you would call a “soft launch” but, hopefully, we’ll be able to start identifying the Hot New Things that this whole concept is focused on.
